Your Story Matters. It Matters Because It’s Yours.

The destination isn’t what you’re aiming for. It’s the journey. That’s where the lessons are meant to be learned.

Recently I came upon a blog post about quotes about sharing your story. The quotes listed were very helpful but one I could relate to the most was, “Sometimes the most healing thing to do is remind ourselves over and over and over, other people feel this too.” by Andrea Gibson.

Why did I relate to this?

Truthfully?

That’s how I see myself as a person.

I watch TV shows. I read stories written by others on a sharing platform. I watch movies that might resonate with me in some way. I watch anime. And my favorite characters in each story are those that I can relate to. I’m sure you’re the same way. I like characters that are headstrong. Characters who are struggling to find their identity. Characters who are untrue to themselves. Characters that go through a journey in the course of the story and find themselves, and truly become themselves. Those are who I resonate with very deeply.

Another quote, “Your heartache is someone else’s hope. If you make it through, somebody else is going to make it through. Tell your story.” by Kim McManus. The most healing is done when you share your story because not only is it yours, but so many others go through the same thing. The same issues. And no one can figure out a solution because we think we’re alone.

The stories and the posts that I write have pretty much the same hint or the same meaning in the end. We’re all broken. We’re all damaged in one way or another. Even those who seem perfect. But every single person on this Earth has a journey to go on, has healing that’s needed. And every single one of us can find solace in others’ stories. It’s why we love falling into a story, disappearing within the characters, and trying to find a solution for our own issues.

Your story matters because it’s yours. But also because it’s yours, it’s yours to tell. Yours to share. Not mine, nor anyone else’s. No one can force it out of you.

But if you’re going through something, share it. Share it with someone you know. Someone you trust. Why? Because if you share your problems…your friends, your family, your trusted ones can help you. Only then can anyone help you. Because no one is a mindreader. No one knows what problems or issues you hold behind closed doors. They want to help. People want to help. But they don’t understand how. They don’t know how.

My story is still on-going, but I can say that the place I am today, I never thought in a million years that I would be here. I don’t mean educationally, I mean just the place. I thought I was going to be unhappy for the rest of my life, but I won’t be. Writing has helped me open my eyes in so many ways.

“The courage it takes to share your story might be the very thing someone else needs to open their heart to hope.”

And I still have many issues in my life. Issues my family wants to help me with. But they can’t. Because I won’t open up to them. Why? I don’t trust them enough to. I don’t trust them, and that’s another one of my issues. Isn’t weird how I trust strangers to help me, but not those who are so very close to me? Close to my heart yet held at a distance?

Throughout my pieces, my writing, I’ll be sharing my journey. I’ll be sharing my story. I hope someday you will be able to do so as well. You’ll be able to spread your wings and fly. Because where you are now…it doesn’t have to be where you remain forever. Where you are now, might just be your start. The destination isn’t what you’re aiming for. It’s the journey. That’s where the lessons are meant to be learned. Open your heart to hope. Open your mind to the possibilities. And create the story you wish to share.

Your story is yours to shape. Your Story Matters.
